Okay. Then that's the magic of sales literature. This wasn't mentioned on the summary page I linked to, but when you read further you can indeed find a more detailed description of the scale. The problem with that test is that it hasn't much in common with the daily practice of planing wood. Planing MDF and then looking at the scratches is not so meaningfull, not like David's testing here.

I think I'm going to get a blade for my endgrain plane (Stanley #6), because that is the only area where the original Stanley iron is lacking in my experience.
