Yeah, I wrote the comment above before looking at the picture of the rough material further down. That is definitely vein material, and what you tell me about the host rock confirms it - you'd never find a quartzite cutting across a granite.

That type of quartz vein is extremely common in granitic rocks, and what you say about the texture of it is consistent with vein quartz that crystalized from hydrothermal fluids.

Should make an excellent polish or burnishing stone.
