these came from an old mountain that seems to be uplifted granite. there are bands of this stuff here and there on it generally a foot or two wide. I have found garnets in the granite as well as the talus. My hope was that because of the age and decayed nature of the granite that the more dense quartzite materials might be a bit less tightly bound. they may, but it seems not enough to release particles under steel. some use will tell the tale a bit better, I guess.
