It's not marble for sure. It's definitely silica, and definitely well bonded together. Probably a bit too well bonded to release much, so at best a polishing stone. Once it's broken in I'd expect more burnish than abrasion. lapped at 400 grit it generates a little bit of black from the steel but that may disappear as it gets smoother.
