I have used a reel mower since 1959. I use Silent Cut that I buy from an Amish importer.

I also use a scythe and grass shears. I don't think you need a scythe. For grass shears I would stay away from Fiskars. They use stainless steel maybe stamped out of sheet material. Just really crummy material.

The type of shears I use is like Berger tools 2200. You want something you can sharpen. I have also used sheep shears, which are also made to be sharpened easily. Lee Valley has a cheap one if you want to see if you like it. The long arm shears are clumsy and probably kind of slow.
