Hand Tools

OT: Hand tool lawn care

Steve Voigt
Last year I got a reel mower, and am reely happy with it. ;) . Obviously I am biased toward beer-powered tools, but for the life of me I don't understand why these aren't more popular…it is sure more pleasant to use than a gas mower, IMO.

Anyway, I am wondering what other non-power tools might be a good complement to the mower. The main obstacles for me at the moment are edge trimming, and clipping the occasional super thin weeds that are to skinny for the reel mower to cut.

I was considering this:

I have some medium duty shears from Fiskars, and it is a real tool. The only problem is that squatting or kneeling gets old fast.

Thoughts? Recommendations? I'd love to hear from anyone who's into lawn care without gas or electricity.
