These contrasts are more of a factor in the example piece above. It looks like Maple ... ? This creates light face grain against dark end grain. However, the wood to be used (as chosen by my nephew and his fiance) is Jarrah. The constrasts will be much reduced, and the subtle effects will likely not show up. Close up, the patterning from the dovetails will be seen, but it will be the rounded ends that are emphasised.

Not the classical MCM timber ... perhaps we should rename it MCA (Mid Century Australian)
(EDIT: It occured to me that you may have been referring to the design with the corner section and not to the one with the dovetails, about which I replied?)
