In fact that is a butchers chopping block Jake. Since I got two in one shot I set this one out in the wood shop but I hardly use it. It is more suitable for me that my chopping block is easy to move and this one from that photo is just the opposite. The one getting the more use is like the one you use. Mine is from horse chestnut and I cannot imagine a more suitable wood for the purpose, very hard to split due to twisted growth and light weight = transportability, I often kick it across the floor to get it where it's wanted. Very true though it's not so easy on my back either.
