Ivory will dent, if you press hard enough, trust me. You can bend ivory tips a bit by soaking them in hot water and clamping in a form. And yes, it does chip easily, something I know all too well. Fossil ivory chips more easily than non-fossil material, probably due to the mineralization from being buried for thousands of years.

So, if down the road I find the wedges wearing (denting) due to the round rod, it might be a good idea to file a flat in the rod. Something I should have thought about, and didn't attempt to correct for. Simple to do...
