One additional suggestion: When the plate comes out of the oven, only let it cool until it's very hot to the touch such that you can only directly touch it for a few seconds at a time, but can hold it with a thick rag or pot-holder.

If you pop the steel sheet off at that point then it will come loose with almost no prying. Although heating to 400F permanently degrades the acrylic adhesive, it does regain a small percentage of its former "stick" when it cools to room temperature. You can avoid that by popping the plate off while hot.
