I'm questioning your diagram of the skew chisel: Aren't you using it upside down, or backwards (on the wrong side of the socket)?

The eventual problem with a fishtail chisel is with repeated sharpening it will be narrowed down to total ineffectiveness.

Hi William

The drawing of the skew is correct, not upside down. The point is, the skew is used in a slicing action to be effective. This is clumsy compared with the fishtail, which only needs to be pushed. I find the latter has much more control and requires less muscle.

Do fishtail chisels wear out? I guess so, however I have a few and find that they last and last between sharpenings. They are specialist tools and are only used briefly.

I think that I received the first Koyamaichi fishtail (for dovetails) made. :)

The chisel blade is smaller than the Blue Spruce.

Regards from Perth

Derek
