I'm good for files. I like the simonds black max multi cut for stock removal, and only file annealed and spring steel, so no need for the specialty super hard files. George has mentioned those, though.

There's a clearance place here that sells the multi cut files for $8 (including a decent handle). They're really superb for draw filing, sort of a hybrid between single and double cut, and with a bit of flex, so you can file a flat surface with them.
