You could make the Blue Spruce chisels (they are just flat stock stabbed in a handle - albeit a superbly turned handle), and I hope I don't make any enemies saying this, but at $40-$50 each for vintage paring chisels, nobody should consider them at what they cost at least until the supply of vintage chisels has dried up. From a use perspective, it makes no sense.

The entire balance of usability with paring chisels (once proper slimness is achieved) is dependent on a fine edge and the balance of sharpening vs. use time.

(the attractive octagonal bolster on the older chisels is just a bonus - a nice thing to have around to copy in case you ever get the urge to grind or saw/file a chisel out of flat stock).

I'm going to assume that Narex makes the parers thick because they are more stable for machining. Even sheffield makers backed off a little and made chisels a bit thicker (not nearly as heavy as Narex, though) with fairly fat lands, and eventually, the bolster became round. I can't remember the bolster shape on mine, but the words "chrome vanadium" on the back of the chisels still sticks out to me because you don't often see such a thing on a chisel with a boxwood handle and a bolster. I'm not sure I'd suspect much regarding the steel if I hadn't seen that - it's really pretty mellow.
