Definitely different than the japanese ura, which is shallow and gradual, and if anything, I've often seen it worn through sooner than someone would want it to be.

I looked at the link you posted and tracked down a review, and see that Narex "cnc"ed a slot right into the back with what looks almost like a stop cut with a cove bit (no clue what the metal equivalent is).

There's a fair amount of back before the "ura" that I saw, and it should take most users a while to get to it - especially considering that it won't be convenient to grind those chisels in most devices (anyone with an upside down rest?).

I would imagine that Narex had a reason for that hollow, and it may have been that users found it difficult to flatten the chisels with the sharp peak on the back, and reducing surface allows for fast work. It does introduce the chance that someone will try to flatten the backs of their chisels with the chisel hanging off of the edge of the stone right in the hollow (that yields disastrous results).

At any rate, I wouldn't be ashamed to have them, and am sure that by the time someone gets to the ura, a few minutes on a coarse stone with each sharpening will eliminate the ura. For most users, if they're not easy to grind, it will take a very long time to get to the ura, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some people grind the peak off of their chisel backs.
