My serrated kitchen knives are simply drawn backwards (i.e., the back of the blade leads, cutting edge follows) on the smoother side of the blade only along the length of the steel. Half a dozen passes or so does the trick for cutting bread, vegetables and so on, so long as the knife hasn't been left too long between sharpenings.

No idea how you might sharpen that deeply serrated thing that appeared in one of the posts in this thread. Slainte.
