Well, in this case, I don't believe he knows more about the cap than I do, though he likely does about everything else that he talks about (well, perhaps not sharpening media).

Every time anyone says anything, they take a chance of being wrong, but this time, I understand the subject material a lot better.

If there was more detail somewhere that referred to feeding problems, i could buy that (it took me a little while to figure that out as a maker, and a sloppily made plane or one that had moved may have such problems).

But mechanically with the cap iron. I've never had any issues at all at the corners once the plane feeds properly. Certainly making the cap iron less effective by lessening its influence at the edges of the cut wouldn't solve any that I've had if I had them. But it might fix a feeding problem that should be fixed another way.
