Always desiring no other possible interpretation, at least I do, leaves me lacking a little in this case.

It looks like, if I was taking a most likely reading, that if the iron is straight across, then the edge would be parallel. If not, concentric implying that it traces the profile of the iron laterally.

However, the picture is not of any help and one doesn't ever see this with jack plane irons that are found. Caps are rarely in perfect condition, not even on little used English planes, but they are usually rounded in the "basil" as this says, just not across the width.(I do like a rounded bevel better than flat, too, but came to that conclusion in use, and not from reading. It just seems to work a little better and give a bit better of a range).

I just don't agree with concentric because it's only useful if the cap iron protrudes below the mouth, and it doesn't. It doesn't mean I think I know more about woodworking than Nicholson, I just think I'm further into the cap iron and experimentation with it than Nicholson might have been.

I don't expect other people to have the same opinion as me if they don't wish to, though.
