Hi All,

If interested in Peter Nicholson's writings, and they are many, a start can be made at Google Books for free. Here is The Mechanic's Companion':

https://books.google.com/books?id=_XYOAAAAYAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=Peter+Nicholson&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiPjrvxuvHWAhVKllQKHSxiAmMQ6AEIHTAA#v=onepage&q&f=false

Not sure if this is the book Warren was talking about, but in the Joinery section, under Jack Planes, Nicholson does indeed say to make the ' cover iron' have a convexity (in plan view) that is 'concentric' with the cutting iron such that it sits an equal distance back from the cutting edge, all the way across. I mention this, because he isn't talking about clipping corners.

The book is also available through that South American River, at a price, for those so moved. BTW, This edition is 1845, but it's earliest edition by Nicholson, or partial edition (not sure which) goes back to 1812. Nicholson states he is following the general organization of Moxon, and seems to see himself as writing a sequel to Moxon.
