Re: Millenials and craftsmanship

Very good discussion as it has been on my mind lately. A trend I see is that of painting antique furniture in trendy pastel colors. I could not believe how large the market has developed for this. Painting over perfectly good antiques. In one case, I saw an "Art Deco" piece with patterned veneer. Completely painted over with no regard to the historical period significance. A few months ago I read an article of how "brown furniture" has completely fallen out of favor with millennials in and around that age group. This was an eye opener because most if not all furniture makers assume furniture needs to be brown. It's just the way it is. So times are changing it seems. Younger people perhaps don't want furniture that they associate with their parents home and furniture? What I would like to see is a good survey of the under-35 crowd about this subject. Maybe show images of furniture and ask them which one they would live with or own?
