Sorry about the double-reply, but...

Let's ignore me since I'm a rank amateur. Let's consider George Wilson for a moment. He doesn't post here, but is well known to sharpen freehand and presumably very quickly on Spyderco Alumina-Ceramic hones.

Those can unquestionably handle PM-V11 almost as quickly as HCS. It seems to me that for him the wear resistance to sharpening time tradeoff of a higher alloy steel would be favorable as it's all gain (longer interval between sharpenings) and no pain (similar delay per sharpening). Perhaps unsurprisingly he has good things to say about PM-V11 in particular.

Am I missing something here? It seems to me that his chosen combination of medium and alloys is eminently reasonable, for him if not for everybody.
