I mentioned number drills. The ones I needed were the small range, numbered 1 through 60. They come in two different point grind angles, plus imported vs. USA made, and in a range of coatings. I got either these very ones, or similar black-coated US made by another maker:

I couldn't find the German drills. They were sold by Traditional Woodworker, which seems to have disappeared from internet sales.
