I noticed that divot, too. I've been sitting on this picture for a long time, just too lazy to build the plane because I really don't want to build the board that goes with it. I will probably first make a long straight "normal" shooting board before making one with miters.

I expect more realistically, that I'll make the plane and then probably not use it any significant amount.

At any rate, I don't think I'll copy the divot. I'm curious about why that cutout would've been made on the top of the plane when it really doesn't have any excuse to be hammered or dropped (I figured it was to hide damage, too).
