I agree, I think a simple strike block style plane would be more practical, but I'm just looking for different. I already have a chute board and miter jack (separate, of course) and a lone remaining premium plane that is square.

If I just can't live with how this plane is, I have about 8 inches of plane to the next mortise, I think, and I can cut one of the mortises off and have a strike block plane without doing any additional work (Unlikely that I'd do that, though).
