Re: Larry's video ()

The velocity of the edge relative to the wood will be the most important variable. Do we know the planing velocity of the LV test? Since they were in a hurry, maybe it was high.

Larry's video and other's observation show that there is significant heat generated in planing. This heat is generated at the surface. If the temperature some removed from the surface increases I would expect that the surface temperature is substantially above ambient. It's at the surface that corrosive wear will occur, the first atomic layer.

PMVII is a corrosion resistant stainless, as much so as 440 series stainless. None of the other steels revealed in the testing are corrosion resistant.

This has been an interesting conversation.
