People call these "transitionals," as if they were bridges between the old all-wood-but-the-cutting-iron planes and the newer all-metal planes. But, in fact, they existed side by side with the metal planes. Stanley produced some of its "transitionals" until 1943. I personally think "hybrid" is a better term.
