Hand Tools

Yeah, that is just for starters.
Bread. Only problem is the 3 kids who wreak the loaf you come to find.
I have a bunch of Japanese knives, and a few French, etc... Before stuff from china was everywhere, 30 years ago, I got one of their 3 dollar veg knives that is everyone's perennial favourite. Wish I had bought 5.
However, the miracles knives get the most use. The steel is crap, and the waffle edge an insult, but the reality is they are really great knives. The thin spatula knife, cuts up sushi rolls better than my 100 dollar sushi knife. The slicers are great for bread. The steak knives are great for spreading and routine stuff like making sandwiches. Sorta a Rally plane situation where the design is very clever, the execution is not so fab.
I am a big believer in the Spyderco system for knives and scissors. Sharpens everything, might not be the very best but I have been using it 30 years, and I don't really see the need to change.
A good chef's knife is a worthwhile purchase, another excellent design. Mine was only 25 bucks but has excellent steel.
