What tool\cut combination do you use on...

I'm turning a large platter (17") in bloodwood (mini-gloat!) and I've been looking for a combo that has the minimum chatter/tearout and get a flat surface. Right now, my best combo has been a bowl gouge with the flute turned to 9 o'clock pulling from the center out, but I think there's got to be a better way...

Post the platter when I'm done- it's going to be be something special...
