Dutch Elm Disease

>In previous posts I mentioned I got some elm from a recently fallen tree that was planted at the end of WWI as a memorial to our soldiers. Anyway, do I need to worry about Dutch Elm disease infecting my wood pile or, being of danger to folks using the bowls I make from it? I am rough turning the wet wood and will let it air dry. How can I tell if it has Dutch Elm disease?
