Subject:
sanding spalted maple

Ronnie
>Today I started finish turning a spalted maple bowl and when I got it the way I wanted it I started power sanding with 80 grit to get out some ridges I had left. When I stoped to check my work I realized the spalted portion had sanded away more than the solid wood and left a depresion.
I have never had this problem before.I cut it back down to where it is more or less level and put some Waterlox on the splated part hoping this would make it harder.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Ronnie
