Subject:
Minimum lathe speed

>I'm using an entry jet lathe right now - I have been using it for five years. It works well enought to hook me on turning, but it's a bit whimpy for larger bowls and other big stuff.

I'm looking at several 16" to 20" lathes in my price range (or, not too far out of it). Some have minimum speeds of 450 and 500 rpm for the lowest speeds. Since I turn some green wood of our place, this may be a little bit fast or way out of balance stock. What do you think that a good minimum speed is? Thanks

PS: Has anyone used the new 20" Grizzley lathe? It looks like lots of iron for not too much money.
