Tree Safari: A sculptural journey

John Lucas
>I just watched the first showing of a film on our local PBS station called Tree Safari: A sculptural Journey. It is a film about Brad Sells and his trip to Africa to harvest a Pink Ivory Tree. If you don't know who Brad Sells is, he is a wood sculpture who carves very convoluted bowl shapes with a chainsaw and then refines them until they are spectacular. They are going to release this to the national PBS stations. I hope the pick it up. it is definitely worth seeing. Fortunately I got to photograph the pieces they are talking about. They only mentioned the Pink Ivory but Brad also got some fantastic Blackwood with the most incredible sap wood.
