Turning a Crotch

Barry Irby
>I have several walnut crotches. Or, to be more politically correct, branch unions. I was thinking of trying to turn a hollow vessel out of one. Does anyone know if you orient the vessel vertically in the "join" will the feather pattern show up in the vessel? In other words, If I make the blank so that the chuck foot is in the 'Leg" of the "Y" and the top of the vessel is just inside the 'V' will that work well. There will probably be sap wood. Would it be better for the top of the vessel to be Up or Down in relation to how the tree grew?
