Homemade Grinder Idea

Todd O. Cronkhite Maine Native now in Jax Fl.
>Yesterday I had a brainstorm and thought that I'd take and old 1/3 h.p. 1725 r.p.m. motor, turning it upright in a box, mount a grinding stone to the shaft, make a tool rest above it and use it to grind some of my lathe knives. Think this would work?

It's along the lines of a horizontal wet grinder only dry.

I currently use a handcranker with a homemade Wolverine to grind the knives, but I really don;t like the "hollowing effect" it leaves on the skews and gouge bevels. I think flat would be better.
