Turning Oak

George Fitzpatrick - Springfield MA
>I am turning an oak bowl for a friend at work. Got lots of oak, but I think the learning curve with this stuff will be steep. I've got the shape I want, after lots of very fine cuts, switching from gouge to skew to scraper and LOTS of sanding. Starting to look pretty nice, but boy is that oak hard. Trying a couple of things, just experimenting. A little water between cuts. Now trying a light coating of DNA between sandings. One thing I have noticed is that the dust tends to collect in a few open pores in the wood. Maybe I should have applied a sanding sealer before sanding??
Just ranting while taking a break!
