Turning Archive 2005

Subject:
What is it with box elder?

Greg Bétit, Crown Point NY
>I've got a few on my property that I need to whack. They're not really great firewood, and I'm not going to turn chair legs from them because they're too gnarley. They've got the interesting red heartwood, but I understand it turns brown with light exposure. I've tried to make chair legs out of it, and it fuzzes easier than anything else I've tried. So why do you turning folks like this stuff?
