>Keith and Jennifer's recent discourse on inexpensive live centers prompts me to offer this tidbit to anyone who might be contemplating purchasing one of these tailstock held wood splitters. It is tough to apply a lot of pressure with a center of this design because it just buries itself deeper into the wood with additional pressure until the failure point of the wood is reached. The solution is to slip a small steel flat washer on the 60deg. point before engaging the wood. Pick a washer diameter which exposes the amount of point which makes you happy.
