Subject:
Whats the tang size for home made scraper

Tim Conlon
>Hi,

I just got a bar of steel for making some heavy bowl scrapers. The steel is 1.5 inch x 3/8 inch x 36 inch long, flat, oil quench, from enco ($40). If I cut it in four pieces 9" each, how much of that 9" should I give to the tang (part that sticks in the handle) and how much to the scraper? Was thinking: 6" blade and 3" tang should give enough support.

I dont have a commercial scraper so I cant see what the dimensions should be, has anybody taken one of them apart? any suggestions would help.

Thanks,

Tim
