LED bulbs for gooseneck mag base lathe lighting

>I picked up a Delta gooseneck magnetic base light to use with my lathe today. Since I'm thinking of using it to focus either inside or very close to the outside to gauge wall thickness, I'm considering an LED light bulb since they run very cool (also use virtually no electricity, but the lathe makes up for that savings).

Has anyone used these? Is there a downside? (Aside from the price which is more than the lamp it would go in.)
