>Last april I reported on my first experiment to spalt logs by burying in a big hole in the ground, as suggested by someone who shall remain unnamed. The experiment did not produce any significant spalting:
I left several maple logs from the same trees lying on the ground in the woods over the summer and cut bowl blanks from one recently - it is well spalted. Most of the wood is highly figured with a lot of burl and the spalting looks great in the bowls I roughed and the blanks.
