Subject:
Gast oil less vacuum pump cleaner

Vicmarc.fan
>Gast has a decal on the pump which says to use a cleaner for best service. The stuff is almost $40.00 for a small aerosol can. Does anyone use this stuff or anything else maybe not so pricey. My pump started acting funny so I tore it apart today. The vanes look to be made of carbon and slide in and out of a groove in the head and are forced to the outside of the housing to make a seal. The unit was pretty well packed with a black deposit which I cleaned as best I could but because the housing is cast iron and machined I didn't want to use anything that would form rust. I have many solvents but I couldn't get the pump off the motor shaft I didn't use any because of the bearings. Just curious.
