>Just bought an actual roughing gouge. Am now discovering it works a bit differently than spindle gouges. So, now I have questions:
What bevel does anyone prefer for these? The one I bought is a P&N and I made my own handle for it. The bevel is fairly steep and I feel like I'm letting the wood pound itself off rather than cutting. Am I holding it wrong?
I'm betting someone is going to tell me to have a live instructor show me the ropes on this one ;-). Good advice if I can get access to such an instructor. Short of that, what are some of the recommended books on chisels, techniques and sharpening?
