Advice on buying a lathe

Al
>Hi,

I would like to get started in wood turning. A friend of mine for many years told me to buy the best lathe I can afford. He has bought 3 lathes over the last few years and has outgrown all of them. His last purchase is a Jet and he is not happy with it. I can't seem to find a good comparison/evaluation of lathes.

My question -- I prefer good quality equipment ... is there a lathe that has the great value, something for a serious non professional to buy. I like the Oneway 2036, but they are expensive, although, if Oneway is a world ahead of all the other lathes, I guess I would just have to plan for a future purchase.

My preference would be something under $2,000. And my interest is to turn bowls and vases. I have received some good feedback and recommendations for the Teknatool International Nova DVR.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,

Al
