OT The Business end of turning

>I'm not sure how to phrase this question. I kinda wanta ask how many of you that are making money at this are doing it by the book. But I don't want anyone to fess up to illeagel activity in an open form. I know a bowl sold here and there is just a hobby. My tax guy tells me that any net profit over $400 dollars a year is income from a business and should be reported as such. This also means collecting sales tax etc. because you get put on the governments radar. What are your thoughts about this?
Thanks,
Bruce
