Bark removal question

>I need some advice on the best...read easiest...way to remove bark from a burl cap. I have a nice cherry burl that I want to leave the outside shape but want to remove the bark. I then flatten the top and cut a bowl into it and it makes a pretty unique looking artistic bowl. How would I go about this without completely soaking the thing for weeks. The burl is pretty dry for the most part. Would DNA work? Should I just soak it in H2O or maybe boil it??? The last resort is using a chisel and doing the caveman routine, but I fear gouging the wood.

Thanks for any and all advice.
