>A friend of mine was kind enough to cut off a really nice Maple burl. Probably eight inches square. The problem is that he forgot to give it to me for at least eight months. It has been sitting outside his cottage a while. I was able to take a lot of the bark off and it looks pretty good, but I am not sure.

I am conserned about turning this, I think it will be (I think the term is) "Punky".

Should I soak it in something or just turn it and see how it goes?
