Turning W/O a chuck??

>After reading Russ Fairfield's link in the thread below I learned that a chuck is not a necessity for turning. Evidently, using a chuck provides convenience & speed but isn't required for fine work.

Can anyone recommend a book(s) that detail how to maximize the use of a faceplate for woodturning?
