Red Palm help

Pete Kaup
>While at the Kansas City AAW conv. over last weekend I bought a RED PALM log, about 8" dia x 10" long.
My "wife" thought it would make a nice piece. She saw a finished bowl she liked.
Anybody have any experience with this stuff? Someone commented that it is real stringie. It doesn't appear to have a pith, at least not one that is visable. I am not a real experienced turner.
Would I do better in splitting it in half and doing two bowls or end grain and a taller vessel?

Any help would be appreciated.
Saw A LOT of Wood Central hats over the weekend.

thanks
