Finish on roughed out bowls

>Just out of curiosity, does it make any real difference what kind of finish (smooth vs rough) you leave on a roughed out bowl blank?

I've been in the habit of praciting my technique on rough outs, shear scraping, etc. I figure I get 2x as much practice per bowl blank this way. I can't imagine it makes any difference to the drying time/success, but I've been wrong a few times in the past, so thought I'd ask. I currently dry blanks in one of four ways. Alcohol, anchor seal the end grain, bag of shavings, or forgotten on the floor behind the lathe for a month or two (this technique often includes both shavings and anchorseal drips, though that's generally not intentional)
