>I have been looking at the Rockwell/Delta lathes for a while now. They seem to be a good choice for me. But I am curious to if there is any reaon you couldn't add riser blocks to give them an 18" swing? Are the bearing good enough to handle a large block of wood like that?

Replacing bearing or even rebuilding the lathe is not a problem for me.

I have also looked at the Powermatic 90. That seems to be a heavier built lathe. But I am only judging by the photos. I have not actually seem one. They are not nearly as common and I hear that they are harder to find parts for too.
