>I'm in the middle of turning a set of salt and pepper mills from walnut. I'm close enough on the first one to be thinking about a finish...
Should the inside of the mills be sanded? I don't think it would be all that hard but is it necessary? Or does it help the "flow" of pepper or salt? Will sanding create hard to get rid of dust that might get in the food?
And what's good for a finish (on the outside only). I'm thinking walnut oil but I've never used it. Is it a "hardening oil?" How about just plain beeswax? Pure tung oil?
Thanks for letting me "borrow" your experience...
